How to edit a page
When editing, always think of the reader. The aim is to create a website loaded with information hence waffle as little as possible. Give information in comprehensible format; avoid using bullet-points and worthless notes.
- Use the Editing panel option. Unroll the Next menu and structure the text by means of headings, paragraphs, numbering, size-variable font, and indexes.
- Use pictures, graphs, and tables. If you can’t find your picture on WikiCommons, don’t be afraid to load files. In order to load a document or a picture, you need to load it to the website first using Tools – Load File (pay attention to the simplicity of the document name). Following that, insert the picture to the page by means of the Inserted File button.
- When editing an already existing page, read its contents first in order to avoid duplicity of information. When deleting contents of an article, please pay special attention to what you are actually removing. And ideally, provide the list of sources you’ve used at the bottom of the page.
- Whenever possible, use the option to create cross references on the page. Don’t hesitate to create links to external websites.
How to search and where to link
Cross References
Cross References are links connecting individual pages of the website. Interconnection of the pages is essential here as it represents one of the biggest advantages of the wiki system. Pay special attention to the creation of such links. When mentioning e.g. intelligence in your text, make this word a link (link button - chain icon) to the Intelligence article.
- Use the overview of all pages on the website. You can access it through the menu on the left. Unroll the Tools menu and choose Special Pages. Under the heading Lists of the website you will find the link to All Pages.
- Here use the page search function (keyboard shortcut CTRL-F on PC). In this way you can easily find every potential page you may wish to reference.
In case you cannot find the page you want to refer to, don’t be afraid to create a red link to a new page of a reasonable name. Then it is more likely that somebody might create it.
