Nápověda:Web Navigation

On this page, you will find a brief overview and explanation of the individual tools and options of wiki, with which you will be able to work after logging in. It is advisable to use as many of these tools as possible for in that way you can get more space to create and edit your sites. At the same time, they will also be more structured, arranged and finer.

Main Panel

You will find the editing panel in the upper part of the website right under the search tool. It serves as the main tool for orientation. It contains:

  • Main page – the link to the wiki homepage
  • Newsfeed - current information relevant for WikiSofia users
  • Recent changes –Displays the list of all editing changes which have been (not only) recently created on WikiSofia (you can adjust the display options of these changes in Settings)
  • Random page – Will direct you to a randomly chosen page from the List of all pages on WikiSofia
  • Help – the link to the help for using WikiSofia

Tools

  • Links here – a useful link which displays the list of pages referring to the current page
  • Related changes – shows a list of pages which are referenced in the given page (or belonging to the particular category) and have been recently changed. Pages you are following (marked in your Followed pages) are written in bold.
  • Load File – enables you to load pictures and other files
  • Special Pages – shows the list of special pages, i.e. pages with the prefix “Special”. This type of pages contains, for instance, the list of unclassified pages, the list of all pages, the list of all users etc.
  • Quote a page – creates a reference to the current page and offers a range of citation styles (APA, ISO, etc.)
  • Permanent link – enables you to display URL of the current revision of the page, i.e. even after you edit the page you will be able to reference the desired revision through the URL. This tool is used especially when referencing – in case it is necessary to quote not only the particular page but also a specific version of the page. All older versions of the page are accessible in the history of the page (see chapter Bookmarks).

If you access the user page, some of the tools will be missing in the panel, yet some new ones will appear:

  • User contributions – shows a list of all contributions of the user
  • Block a user – enables you to block messages sent by the user
  • Send an e-mail - enables to send e-mails among users by means of a simple interface

User panel

It is located in the top right corner of the website and serves as the main panel.

Bookmarks

Page bookmarks are located in the upper part of each wiki page (under the main panel) with the exception of some special pages which you will probably not use when creating a page. From left to right, bookmarks consist of these items:

  • Page – the main text of a page which is automatically visible to every user
  • Discussion – each page has its own discussion board (except for Special pages – see the chapter on Tools), where you can discuss the shape and contents of the article. In the discussion, don’t forget to sign off by means of --~~~~! (see the chapter on Editing panel)
  • Edit – to be used when modifying a page. After clicking this button the editing panel will appear and then it is possible to amend the page.
  • History – Each revision of a page is saved in the history of the page, accessible via this bookmark. At first glance, navigation in this page may seem difficult but it is actually rather simple: each revision has its own line equipped with main tools as follows (from the left): date of revision, author’s name, the number of bites in brackets, and finally a summary of all changes if the editing summary was filled in during editing. You can compare or cancel individual revisions.
  • Transfer – enables you to transfer the page to a new name. When transferring a page, don’t forget to state your reasons for it.
  • Follow – via this bookmark you can add a particular page to your list of followed pages. If you don’t want to follow the page anymore, click on Unfollow
  • Delete – enables you to delete a page
  • Lock – makes it possible to lock a page; a locked page can’t be edited anymore

Editing Panel

Editing panel is located in the main editing interface, i.e. after clicking Edit bookmark at the top of the website. From left to right the Wikitext bookmark contains the following buttons:

  • Bold text – allows bold print
  • Italics – allows using italics
  • Insert a quote – Either upon entering ISBN (or any other identification code) or simply inserting bibliographical data of the original source, this module generates correct citation in one of the most frequently used citation formats
  • Signature and date – Mainly to be employed in discussions in which it is necessary to make obvious who wrote any particular comment. The button effectively inserts 4 wavy lines which, however, are displayed as the author’s signature in the preview mode and especially after saving. The signature is formatted as following: --Author’s name + time of comment submission (in the following format – 18.11.2013, 22:04 (UTC)).
  • Link (chain icon) – makes it possible to create a link. Please fill in both required panels carefully: The name of the website is the address you are linking to. The text of the link is the text which is going appear as a link in your article
  • To a wiki page – allows you to insert internal links
  • To an external website – allows you to insert external links
  • Inserted File – inserts tags for pictures (default suffix.jpg). To be able to insert a picture to the website, it has to be already loaded through the Load File feature!
  • Notesdoesn’t work although it should allow you to insert a note
  • Next – opens up an additional panel with other features useful for transparent editing of a page
  • Heading – inserts one of four levels of headings. The content of the page is being generated based on these headings so please use it for functional structuring and organization of the article
  • A list of bullets – inserts a symbol for a list of bullets
  • Numeric list – insets a symbol for numeric list
  • Indentation – indents a paragraph
  • No formatting wiki – inserts tags which enable the text in the brackets to not be recognized as wiki text. I.e. when you want to demarkate a word with three apostrophes without writing it in bold, you write <nowiki>'''What a fantastic help!'''</nowiki>. Without the tag “nowiki”, the software MediaWiki would read it as the formatting symbol for bold print.
  • New line– ends a line and starts a new one by means of the
    tag
  • Grow font – increases the font of the marked text (example)
  • Shrink font – decreases the font of the marked text smaller (example)
  • Superscript –marked text turns into superscript (example)
  • Subscript –marked text turns into subscript (example)
  • Picture Gallery – inserts a gallery of more pictures. To insert pictures to the website it is necessary to load these pictures to wiki by means of Load File!
  • Redirecting – automatically redirects the reader to another page
  • Table– inserts a table; suitable for various overviews, datings etc.
  • Special characters: opens a list of symbols from various alphabets, e.g. Roman, Greek Cyrillic etc.
  • Help: to be used for quick orientation in the editing tools panel

Bookmark Preview is to be used when checking the visual appearance of the page without the necessity to save changes. In the end, the bookmark enables you to show your carried-out changes with the current page (before saving changes)
